Well this is interesting... Not exactly BCN3D style.

Well this is interesting… Not exactly BCN3D style. Has anyone tried this set up?

Can’t help but to research more… Found this article which looks like the same base principle idea on how the twin extruder works with sharing same belt. Got to love magnet!

Yes, I’m doing dual X carriage on my own design, a fully parametric (openscad) cartesian.

As far as I am aware it’s the only parametric dual carriage printer.

Hmm, sorry, did not see the video, my design is more like the bcn3d in that each carriage has it’s own belt.

I have to say though that this design is cool, but it’s also a bit complicated, just to save the cost of a motor and belt.

in my case, I have a crane style printer so the saving of extra motor and belt while making things a bit complicated would benefit a lot.

i played with the same idea about a year ago after seeing this - http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1446731

it’s funny because my x axis is mgn-12 rails which is much more similar to the makergear m2.

i’d have to dig up - but i think i can still find my old cad files if you want, they’re part freecad, part 123d (or fusion360 - i really don’t remember).

tbh - i prefer this way of “tool changing” to other methods (the y-splitter is nice, but too problematic currently imo).
one of the advantages being you can use a direct drive for both tools, as well as being more flexible in mixing materials with different properties.

i mainly used it to print petg with pla/pva supports (since petg supports were nearly impossible to remove). and since i had far too many problems with the pva filament i had then (tried 2 different suppliers), and i didn’t end up using it all that much (learned to model better for 3d printing) - i ditched it.

I would love to look at the fusion 360 file if you want to share

This is really neat!

@Step_Cia sorry - i was on a business trip and did not receive notifications for some reason…
i’ll try and convert what i have to fusion360 on monday (away for the weekend, and like i said - it’s mostly freecad and 123d) - who knos, maybe taking another look at it might even spark something
