What are people doing with their old printers?
You hardly see any Darwin or Cupcake CNC or RepMan3.0
Yet they cannot have vanished from the face of the earth.
My first printer donated parts to a later one. My second one (a Cupcake) is on display along with some other old machines at the Deezmaker.
My cupcake (technically my highschool’s) has been cannibalised by my successor, he doesn’t seem to know how little he knows, I just hope his printer works.
They are usually taken apart for parts. Although a cupcake is pretty useless even for that.
I am thinking on making my cupcake a cnc router for PCB boards and small projects
After seeing photos of the Apple 1, I keep one of our Cupcakes in nearly stock form and the other we modded to run all new electronics. Both of them now sit on a shelf in my office as humbling reminder to not be so impatient with these machines. Other machines Ive built but never finished sit in pieces in a box somewhere or get otherwise canabalized. The one thing MakerBot did right was cultivate an image which as yet to be matched.
