What are the go to 3d printer kits for price/performance?
I love my @Printrbot Maker. I bought the laser cut wood version a little over a year ago, and it was a solid design. Since then @Brook_Drumm has continued to put out more and more impressive versions without compromising the price. My only criticism (And it is a weak one because I don’t own any of the newer models) is that they appear to be less hackable. (For example, mine now prints over 200x200mm vs the stock 100x100, thanks in large part to Jon Lawrence’s mods)
Printrbot Play
Either printrbot play if you are ok with 4x4x5 in build area. Otherwise for with the printrbot simple metal. Both are rock solid printers.
I’ll give the nod to the Printrbot Metal Simple. It’s not too expensive, massively stable, and highly upgradable for not too much investment. Can be pushed from 6"x6"x6" to 8"x9"x"10.25" with heated bed for not much cost. The Play is a good choice, though. Just as stable, and no cost to have it shipped assembled, but isn’t very upgradable.
Has anyone done a review of @Josef_Prusa 's http://shop.prusa3d.com/en/3d-printers/59-original-prusa-i3-kit-with-lcd.html ?
Edit: it seems like a good deal for ~$600 (though I don’t know what tax/shipping is): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7AS5dIE0pLc
In couple months we’ve got couple hundreds great customers, I’ll ask them for some testimonials
btw we did this in latest revision http://youtu.be/PCh5TxLNIvo (video is not pulic yet
@Josef_Prusa good to see you active, bro! All my best!
@Alex_Wiebe point taken. The play adds great value in dependability due to rigidity. I’ve been considering a very hack able ultra low cost model for schools. Probably injection molding or wood. I have some new ideas percolating to simplify even further. Would also be printable
I think the play it simple will be hard to beat. I love them both
Can’t forget about SeeMeCNC’s Rostock MAX v2 kit.
