What brightness do you guys suggest for non-diffused wearables? I have plenty of battery, I was running at 75 but I just bumped it to 100. I don’t want to blind people, but I want to be seen.
I tend to go on the the more subtle side, but I would say it depends a lot on the atmosphere of the event and brightness of the environment you’re in. If it’s a dance party where everyone is constantly moving and lots of bright stuff then turn it up some, but if you’re going to be trying to having extended face to face conversations with others you have to consider they’re going to be staring into your LEDs the whole time they’re in front of you-- could be annoying/distracting.
A pot to control master brightness, or a button that cycles between several preset brightness values is a nice addition if your project has space [25 -> 60 -> 100 -> 200 -> loop back to 30… for example].
1/4!!! I’ve had people at festivals run away from me because i was too bright and 1/2
For anything wearable, I’d put a potentiometer into the mix and adjust the brightness to suit the occasion.
I brought it back down to 75. I didn’t want to deal with pot getting adjusted in my pocket accidentally. I hadn’t thought of a button to cycle though brightness, I’ll have to implement that later. I’m out of time, ready for the weekend.
I noticed the LEDs on my crown don’t seem that bright compared to a pixel ring. I think it has to do with the spacing. I added a 16 pixel ring, to wear as a pendant, in parallel with the crown and it seems much brighter, Possibly has to do with power distribution and brand of LED.
If you can see nearby surfaces reflecting the color back at you, it’s probably too bright – especially if you expect people to be looking at you from close up.
@Leon_Yuhanov those people at the festivals were probably having an “enhanced” experience
Depends how many LEDs you have. I run the Technocolour Dreamcoat at about 10% of theoretical full power and everybody sees me, but that’s 640 LEDs :-).
The Electric Epaulettes (12 LEDs over each shoulder, under a small bit of diffusing material) run at 64/255 brightness because any more than that is uncomfortable for anyone attempting to talk to me as they’re right in their field of vision.
