@Thomas_Sanladerer ok - that’s what I’m talking about! HOW did u know that they’re only rated for .5A?
I will not be using RJ-45 then! Cos AFAIK it’s a 40W heater cartridge! I’d need 2 RJ-45s!
Because this is for bowden setups only, I don’t need extra pins for a stepper, there’s 6 pins required total (assuming they can take the full power) so, perhaps a molex, micro molex, or “header and um… connector” setup is the way to go i think
I’m currently using some TINY headers and after my sloppy soldering they don’t FIT into the connectors, so… looking for something slightly LESS ‘micro’… But not a DB-9 cos they’re kinda chunky…
Thanks all!
@Robert_Hirsch Phone line must be rated high enough to ring an old fashion in bell in a telephone which is DC pulsed /PWMed about 90V. Don’t ever work on a phone and ask someone to call you to test it. After I got hit, I had to measure it with a meter. Was a 90V square wave.
Picked up some pluggable terminals, not tiny, but they look very handy! I found a 8 socked and will use a 2 plug and a 6 plug so that I can add / remove the cooling fan separately (as the way I see it, the thermistor, hot-end fan and heater cartridge are all “part” of the hot end, where the fan is a separate unit)
Thanks again everyone - I think I’ll go a 6 or 8 pin molex if I make it more permanent but for now (will be changing hot ends a bit) this is perfect
@Jimmy_Edwards you are right. People forget phone lines are AC.
Btw, I got hit with 480VAC, twice, holy shit that hurts.
I use molex connectors, they are like the ones used on motherboard fan connectors with a locking mechanism. I have pins and terminal block part numbers if you need them
@Jarred_Baines btw, if you look around there are also 3mm pluggable terminals (I’m sure digikey has them too) that are smaller.
