What diff oil are you guys using for PLA diffs?
I put some engine oil that I had laying around in mine to lube it and it worked perfect in the beginning, but if the car sits around for a few days, when I gas it, the planet and sun gears strip in the center diff.
My “theory” is that the oil seeps into the PLA and makes it soft.
I just got some silicone oils to try, what have you had the best luck with?
I am using “Differential Grease Molybdeen”, but I got metal differentials. http://www.rakuten.de/produkt/ansmann-racing-ansmann-dr-liquid-molybdeen-differential-fett-gelblich-90-gr-552830002-283000002-1039910940.html?sid=6de42183252b3f3a5cb2b78f4de52aad&portaldv=3&sclid=a_rakneu_pla_gp_DE&cid=google_base_pla&utm_source=gpla_DE&utm_medium=pla&utm_campaign=googlebase-pla-2012-02_DE&gclid=CKGXrb2UnMMCFefMtAodblkAbw
I tried grease in the diff case to lubricate the ring and pinion gears, but the ring gear just cut through it and stuck it on the side of the case. Not very effective.
For inside the differential, I tried 1,000cst diff oil and it was pretty bad. The diffs got lubricated and power transfer from left to right is immediate and the car was very hard to drive.
Next I tried 30,000 cst diff oil. A lot better, but still too light. And it seeped out of the case.
I’m running on 50,000 cst oil now and I like it for the front and rear diffs, but I think I’ll go 100,000 cst for the center diff to help power transfer.
Anybody else?
