What do you guys think about this $200 printer? I’m fairly interested, it’s cheap, works with most filaments, decent build size, bunch of fancy features. They’re already fully funded on Kickstarter, and their preorders start in five days.

I’m curious what you think because it seems almost too good for that price point. Would you consider preordering it? Or might you choose to wait and see what reviews are like?

I was one of the backer. They are 1 year late, but it seems that they are finally delivering the product. If you’re not in a hurry, wait a few more days and you’ll be able to read the first reviews of the product.

@Luca_Mazino thats pretty much been my plan

Monoprice Maker Select Mini. Here now. And pretty good reviews.

Avoid it. The motors and gearing they use are likely going to be prone to wear out quickly. We already have people who have used the same motors they sourced for the delta movement, and have had bad luck with longevity.

I purchased this same 3D printer through the kickstarter program. It was to be delivered March 2016. As of this date I have yet to receive it. The first 100 that were sent out failed rapidly. They went back and reengineered numerous components and changed both the software and the production quality assurance.

I would advise at this time to wait until the first 1,000 are delivered sense that reengineering. The first ones should be arriving in Canada Within two weeks. the printers that will be arriving are set to be delivered to customers Within Canada. At that point we should have feedback from those users. The next set of printers will be sent to backers in the United States.

I hope this helps you make a decision. Feel free to reach out to me for additional questions.

Also note, they won’t be shipping any customer units until all the Kickstarter units (I have two on order) are shipped… which will be a couple months by their estimates.

since so many of you have ordered it, I would greatly appreciate it if you guys left your own thoughts about it as a post in this community after you’ve gotten to use it

I don’t believe it has a heated bed? If so, it certainly doesn’t work with most filaments.

Never seen a printer run well with those little motors. They seem sloppy and burn out quite frequently. I’m pretty sure M3D uses a similar motor and I hear about the magic smoke from them quite often. The only printer I know of getting away with cheaper ones like that is the MonoPrice mini and they only use it in the z I believe.

I’m drawn to the price but I also like companies that have serious credibility. At $200 you would be much better off spending $100 more and getting a refurb Printrbot Play. I’ve used one and was the best printing experience I’ve had to date.

Mark, it doesn’t have a heated bed. But supposedly will print abs fine.

Griffin, I am worried about that as well. Good thing is the warranty, should cover replacement. As for the monoprice, I like it, however the build space is limited and you have to make mods to it asap to make it work well. Not to mention the power supply should be replaced as the stock one tends to go up in smoke.

@Cybermastif M3D said the same about their Micro (I was a backer), and it wasn’t true of the Micro. I don’t think anyone prints anything significant in ABS without a heated bed.

I’d say figure on the TIKO being PLA only and you will hopefully not be disappointed.

Just wait for the Mattel 3D printer…

I would highly recommend waiting to read the reviews on the TIKO, I’m an early backer, number 400 and something and they just passed some of the early bird backers over to ship the first 1000 unit production printers all to Canada and they have had issues answering questions as well. So I would wait and read the reviews after these get into the publics hands.
