What do you prefer: ActionBar or not?
Many people asked me to use more native Android UI elements.
Today I did some experiments with the Android Action Bar to replace the custom button bar on the left. To be honest, I’m not convinced that this improves the look & feel for the following reasons:
-when the bar is on the top of the screen, the screen is not used efficiently on most devices (aspect 16:10) , it reduces the available space even more.
-there is a maximum of 4 action buttons (unless you force them) , this makes the usability worse (go to overflow menu to jump to next layer) -no special action on long press possible anymore
For what it’s worth I prefer the buttons the way they where down the left side.
Agree with @Gary_Durey
I like the “Alternative Button Bar” post better
With the new update the text underneath each button on the left is blocked by the button below it. I am using a nexus 7 2013. Thanks for the awesome app
There’s text?
I don’t think there’s text anymore @Ethan_Hall
@Ethan_Hall @Jarred_Baines for all devices with less than 720dp high it will not show text, because it messed up on small screens.
However I could lower the limit a bit so that Nexus 7 might still show text. how well did the text fit on your nexus ?
No no… Cos my one x has the same results and there’s no room for text here!
If you’re going to change it I think make it optional for us phablet users
Or no text - longpress for toast?
@Jarred_Baines longpress is already used for other functions (like jump to layer x). Maybe I can find a limit which is still ok for nexus 7 but will not show text on phablets like yours. Could you send me a support email out of the app, so that I can see your screen dp values ?
No text would show on the button. I’ll put a picture on the gcode printr page
Running viperx rom - the dp should be stock but… just letting you know
I’ll do it in 5 MD
Um… Couldn’t figure it out? How do I send this support mail from within the app?
long press on the console opens a context menu -> send email
