What do you think,

What do you think, do Magnetic joints have enough hold to hold the effector at high printing speeds, or do you prefer normal Traxxas style joints. What are your experiences with magnetic joints vs traxxas rod ends?

I used the Ultibots magnetic joints, but kept having the print head come detached. So I added light duty craft store stretch cord between the carriages and the effector and added a preload. Have not had a single effector detachment yet since the upgrade.

Properly-made mag joints have enough hold for printing, but the risk is always nozzle crashes. If a corner curls up or whatever, the effector will pop off, and that can be a serious fire hazard. I personally ONLY recommend mag joints if you have secondary retention (springs or cables or whatever) to pull the effector up above the print if the arms detach.

Depends on weight of effector. If running a delta that’s light…Very light weight and small the I’d go magnetic. But on my custom built machine I had to convert back to ball and joint because prints would disconnect the magnets when the forced the arms out a certain distance. Jus be prepared for making a conversion if u have to. I designed my own parts not sure is there are any others in the wild for this

  • I used one of those industrial key chain thing janitorial staff have to keep tension on my wiring an effector just as @Ryan_Carlyle says.
