What is next? Prusa i3 MK2
Josef Prusa, developer of well known Prusa i3 RepRap printer, has revealed new and very promising iteration called MK2 during Czech #3Dexpo fair and conference in Prague. As I have personally seen, many things were improved – from heated bed with bigger building volume to very precise Z axis. More info (and I hope also exclusive video with the author) to come.

He still calls it a “RepRap”?

Considering much of it looks to be printed, that’s a reprap

@Taylor_Landry If printed parts make it a RepRap, then my motorcycle is now a RepRap. When I asked if Prusa still calls it a RepRap, I was asking the OP (who called it a RepRap) if he thought Prusa was still working toward a self-replicating printer. I’m thinking not, since his development has been toward reliability and quality of printing, and not self-replication.

That’s some interesting logic. The mere presence of 3d printed parts doesn’t make a machine “RepRap”…

The motor mounts, X carriage, and Y carriage, and Z guides are all printed. It appears that, like the mk1 i3, one could purchase or make the frame, purchase the belts, lead screws, all thread, smooth rods, motors, electronics, heated bed, and hot end, and print everything else to have a functional printer.

That’s about as close as you get to a “reprap”.

I’m still not really sure what the point of your original comment was or why you think it doesn’t fit in the reprap community, but that’s fine.

What was behind my comment (maybe not as focused as a point to my comment) was that RepRap as a movement has become desktop 3D printing, with very few people pursuing replication. I don’t know if I would say that RepRap is dead, but it has largely morphed into something else. So it seems a little anachronistic to refer to Prusa i3 MK2 as a RepRap, regardless of the presence of printed parts. I don’t think Prusa is attempting self-replication or even working toward it.
