What is the best way to setup mobile power for this small system? I’m building 10 of them, I’m using ESP 32’s each one paired to 10 ws2812b LED’s. The ESP32’s take in OSC Data to run color changes/animations from external devices. I can’t use wall power they need to be standalone devices, I’ve tried 9v batteries, but once they reach 7V they lights either turn off or wig out. Any help on the best power solution would be greatly appreciated, thank you.
I have a LOT of 5V WS2812 and APA102 lanterns and I use rechargeable USB powerbanks exclusively. With around 2300mAh, they have plenty of power to go around for this size of display. My basement two years ago:
I use an Anker 4500mAh power bank similar to this to run 32 pixels. Running random patterns at a low brightness setting it will run for 6+ hours no problem.
Are your strips 12v variety? I’m with Andrew and Mark above, but all of my strips have always been the 5v flavor. 12v power banks are few and far between from what I’ve seen. If you haven’t bought your rolls yet I’d swap up your strips to run the standard cellphone charger banks. If not, get 10 step-ups and still utilize the banks from amazon.
@Tom_Schubert , @marmil , @Andrew_Tuline Hey guys thanks a lot for the responses, I have an anker and just used one for a test it works! However I’m presented another problem. These LED’s are going to sit in very small containers that are heart shaped, they will run a ‘beat’ animation every time the users heart beats, I need the power, chips, and led’s to all fit into these small shaped objects (people will be walking around ‘holding there hearts’), so unless they make a decently small power bank I’ll have to find another solution. Much love to this community!
Look for one of the ones that are the size of two packs of gum. Those are pretty small.
@John_Sahhar if you have weird power requirements, make your own battery. Use a lipo or two of your required size and then a voltage up or down converter depending on whether you used 1 or 2 lipos in series.
@John_Sahhar , check out these. They are cheap and the shape makes them easy to hide.
