What is your work flow from concept to finished project? 3D scanning?

What is your work flow from concept to finished project?

3D scanning? If so what do you use? Has anyone used David Scanner?

CAD - what is your preference & what OS is used?

CAM - again what is your preference / OS?

Machine control software / OS?

Machine info: describe your setup / size / kit or your own design / steppers or servos & size / your favorite material to cut?

CAD: Autodesk inventor 2014
Cam: Meshcam for 3d, cambam for 2D

3d scanning (Kinect) for fun.

UP! PLUS 3d printer for prototypes/ mockups

CAD: SolidWorks
CAM: Esprit CAM, V-Carve Pro
3D printing: UP3D printer
Plasma: PlasmaCAM
CNC: HAAS or any modified running Mach3
Scanning: haven’t taken that step yet.

No 3D scanning. It produces polygons instead of CSG anyway.
CAD using Alibre Design in Parallels on MacOs.
CAM using @DeskProto and my self-written one and
machine control using MACH3.
Machines are 2 modified Chinese CNC6040 and CNC4030 aka #TravelCNC.

Nextengine scanner
Rapidworks
Solidworks
Simplify 3D
Makerbot Replicator 2X

Solidworks sounds pretty expensive for people in a DIY group.

Scanning: None thus far
CAD: SolidEdge
CAM: Cut2D, cambam, meshcam (Still looking for an ideal solution)
Machine Control: Mach3, LinuxCNC (CNC Router, Mill)

Kronos Robotics 50x50 CNC Router
LMS 3950 Milling machine converted to CNC

How can you guys afford such expensive software?

Hey Marcus, I didn’t purchase the software. As an educator I have access to it and I load it to my school laptop. Regards Aaron
