I’ve found out the hard way that the compact and tidy M3D Micro design has a downside: The internal spool holder under the print bed necessitates unwinding the filament a bit before unloading, making it really easy to introduce, and at the same time really hard to find, knots.

The first few prints (until I tried to boost print speed) with the M3D Micro were exceeding my expectations on quality. This #3DBenchy was the second print off the printer, after a flat circle to check bed calibration and adhesion.

A lot of people run spools outside of that printer. It makes it look far less sleek but they seem to have less issues with it

That m3d is one of those ‘I’ll get one if I win the lottery’ things. (Yes. I have simple desires)…It seems to be way too small to be very useful, but it’s so damn compact and I like the gantry mechanism…I suspect it wouldn’t scale up.

The machine looks attractive. The filament hopper is a down side. It seems most of the people that have problems with crossed filament store or dispense their spools horizontally.

The crossing can happen simply by having the spools flat. I ran into that issue a lot when I first started printing.
