What kind of failure rate do you see with your LEDs? And which supplier have you found to have the best quality for WS2813 or WS2812 LEDs?

Out of ~4500 LEDs (WS2812 / WS2813), I’m seeing somewhere around 0.2% failure just in a several month period. I’ve gotten mine off Amazon, mostly the Alitove and Visdoll ones, whose products look pretty much identical. Alitove has provided great support / customer service and has even built some custom strips for me (3x copper, tight spaced connectors, etc.) but I still see failures in their LEDs.

I found a company called FlexfireLEDs based in California, who really differentiates on quality and even they say their failure rate is “less than 0.1%” which isn’t really that much better, and their strips are pricey.

I searched this group and found some posts from early 2017 and 2016, so looking for any new data.

I nearly always get my LEDs from Ray Wu on AliExpress. These are my favourite strips, I’ve never actually counted the faulty led rate, but it’s negligible, and I’ve never had one fail once in place.

I’m getting a fairly high failure rate with LEDs off of eBay that I use outside. Fails usually pop up at -10 to -30 Celsius. I have more time than money though, so just made the lighting in 10-LED modules that I can swap in and out and sometimes repair.

I’m a Ray Wu user as well. Failure rate is very small. I couldn’t put a number on it because i abuse my strips to the maximum

The DIY Christmas people swear by Ray Wu.
The LED strips used in the entertainment industry are a whole different price level than we are used to. I am going to visit a friend of mine who works for a company that does huge lighting installations (almost exclusively LEDs) for entertainment and corporate events (as an engineering consultant). I plan to scope out what they use and maybe get paid in leftovers. I will have a full report (if it proves to be relevant).

@Jeff_Mizener the prices are the same, they depend on quantity and nothing else. If u purchase under 100m your going to het Rays prices, if u plan on ordering more than that he will give u the same price tjat the actual manufacturer will give u, plus acountability & doubly tested pixels.there are tona of companies in China that fab strips, competition is pretty fierce
