What product do you guys use to get a good smooth finish on your prints? Tried just sanding the ukulele but it didn’t work too well… Thinking of more of a product that you put on and then sand

It sounds like what you’re looking for is XTC-3D, it’s a two part epoxy you brush on and it basically makes a hard shell over the object and covers the layer lines.

I’d still suggest sanding it before applying the XTC, but it definitely cuts the time and effort required to smooth objects way down.

It isn’t exactly cheap, but it does go a long way. You’ll mix very little even for a large piece like that.

This is the opposite direction, but perhaps with a bit more control and therefore a better finish. It’s called an air eraser, a combination air brush and sand blaster, but using finer grit.

One can be purchased from horrible freight, but I’m averse to recommending their stuff, unless I’ve had experience with a specific product. Their wheel chocks are great, but that is unrelated to this topic.

With respect to coatings, one can add microballoons to the epoxy and get a greater distribution while filling in layers:

It will improve the effects of sanding while extending the use of the foundation epoxy. It’s frequently used in fiberglass work as filler.

Acetone vapor bath if it’s abs

Filler primer works depending on how rough it is and if you are going to paint it afterwards

Filler primer for the pla followed with sanding and repeat I just use a grey stone rustoleum spray and works great after 3 coats very smooth . +1 to the vapor bath ^^ on ABS.

I’m actually using bondo and then sanding it smooth, priming, painting, and putting a matte finish on it

I will post again with pictures when I’m finished

Would love to hear it
