What's the recommended way of cleaning the surface of a nozzle/head,

What’s the recommended way of cleaning the surface of a nozzle/head, so filament won’t stick to it? Mine started collecting excess filament like a magnet underneath the head, burn it and then drop ugly brown blotches all over the white print. Any recommendations?

Apparently, running a hot tip nozzle down into plastic, letting the nozzle cool to 70C and then pulling the plastic off works.

So take an old discarded print, heat up the nozzle, jog z slowly down into the plastic, then turn the heat off. Watch the temp until it reaches about 70C, and then tug the plastic piece off. Be aware that this might put some stress on your hot end, so depending on the type you have, you’ll want to modify what direction/motion you use to pull the part off.

If it’s too hard, simply heat up the nozzle again to release the bond.

Polishing your nozzle will keep plastic goo from sticking to it in the first place and make subsequent cleaning much easier.
Chuck your nozzle into a lathe or drill press and then give it a thorough pass with some polishing paste!

Try Pam

If it burns into black goo the nozzle might be too hot. I haven’t had ABS turn black yet.

Hmm, that isn’t too hot for PLA.
