When I woke up this morning,

When I woke up this morning, and checked on the print that I had done, I found a huge stringy mess. The other prints were fine, but one print didn’t make it.

Played the timelapse video, and first thought that it all looked fine, there wasn’t anything bad that seemed to happen. Then, disaster struck.

It’s usually hard to see, but there are always forces on the parts being printed as new layers are extruded. That one part got tall enough that the lever arm became long enough for those forces to be stronger than the adhesion to the tape.

I’m sure a raft or brim on the tall part that broke off will make it work the next time.

Nah, it was my fault. There was literally half an inch touching the bed at the start.

@Mark_Rehorst Yeah, you are right. But I sort of expected it to fail, my brother can say I told him so, now, though.

Thanks for all that anyway, I didn’t know most of it

It’s called schrodingers print. Before you see the print in the morning the print is both perfect and a stringy mess.

What were you printing?

Ha! Submarine wing, a project that involves taking apart an RC plane.

It looks to me like a printrbot keychain and the locking arm for the extruder. I can’t figure out what the tallest part that came off the build plate is.

Oh, I thought that is what you meant. Correct on the first two, the tall one is a submarine wing.
