Where can I get the cheapest and most reliable printer in south Africa
+Peter van der Walt Any ideas since you live there?
Cheap and reliable? Sounds like an invitation to hear more from @Brook_Drumm . I’d suggest the Printrbot Play. $399 and in stock on Amazon.
I wonder if @Quentin_Harley is still in South Africa with his Morgan design.
@Adam_Steinmark I agree. Printrbot Play would be a phenomenal low cost but unbeliveably reliable printer. For a comprehensive review check out https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U3q9f_0Lcu8 .
Very kind of you both

Printrbot
How much is the print bot exactly and where is it made
@Brook_Drumm can tell you specifics on where it is made, from my knowledge it is assembled in house at Printrbot. However the Printrbot Play is 400 USD. You can find more information on the printer itself from the link to Printrbot’s website.

http://3dprintingsystems.co.za offer a reliable range of desktop 3d printers
In comparison to the printers from 3D Printing Systems the Printrbot Play is 5,754.37 Rand, whereas the least expensive printer from 3D Printing Systems is 11,995 Rand. Obviously the price point of the printer is up to you and you may want something made closer to where you are. However based specifically on price the Printrbot Play has a much better introductory price to printing without a lack of quality or reliability. (I cannot speak for the quality of any of the printers offered by 3D Printing Systems however I am sure you could find video reviews of their products on Youtube.)
The Printrbot Play is made in Lincoln, CA. We make it in-house, but the laser cut, folded and powder coated metal is fabricated in Sacramento (about 30 miles from me). Injection molded bits made in-house. Machines aluminum parts made in Auburn, CA (15 miles east of here). So it’s US made. It has a 4x4x5" build volume. All open source- everything from firmware, electronics, and all hardware. Any filament you want will work up to 275C. Heated bed is optional (requires ATX). You can stand in it while it prints - I’ve done it
It comes assembled.

@Brook_Drumm Is the 175C for filament a typo? I print PLA at 210C
Cheap and reliable are mutually exclusive in SA. R10k for a xyz which will give you uphill or R40k for an ultimaker that should be pretty good. I’m in SA ill help you put one together that’s reliable prints reliably very well, and won’t cost you a fortune. The plans are on reprap if you want to diy alternative a kit or I build them on demand.
Yes- I had a typo… 275c… Corrected it
I like to say reliable can be “inexpensive”. But it depends on your definition of inexpensive.
I REALLY like to say “more expensive doesn’t mean better”.
You’re milage may vary.
@Brook_Drumm 100% agree. Z18 vs whanhao duplicator 5S I’d have the whanhao which is 1/3 of the price even if it was the same money. My feeling is however for what a xyz machine costs here you can build or get a decent locally build machine that would perform as well if not better than something costing as much as a taz5. Spend more on things like bearings and a better controller and you’ll have a machine that would out print just about every commercial machine.
