Which PLA are my European printer operators using? I am printing on an Ultimaker. Right now I have been printing with Ultimaker’s own PLA but I have som strange “dots” on the PLA further into several rolls. Should I try Colorfabb and/or Faberdashery next?
Afaik Ultimaker isn’t currently and never before imported some low-quality China filaments. You should send them some pictures so that they can provide their suppliers with feedback.
Faberdashery is also very nice. On a world-wide scale there’s also @Diamond_Age_Solution . But that’s about it. Faberdashery, colorfabb & Vik/Diamond Age.
No worries - I could also be wrong and they changed suppliers. But knowing their approach to quality I would doubt that.
Let us know how you like the two European premium offers. I totally would recommend to get some material from both of them. Both have their ups (Faberdashery: superior colors, diameter / colorFabb: nice feel, great retraction, on rolls) and downs (Faberdashery: no rolls, just reels --> often leads to knots / colorFabb: small inner diameter of rolls --> bad for bowden setups (high friction), etc.)
Because they deeply believe in quality over usability. They say that they only can provide utmost precise diameter when not forcing it onto a roll.
Especially in a bowden setup large coils, instead of small diameter coils from a roll really make a difference friction-wise in the tube.
So I get their point, but hate to work with it. But that’s also just because I’m too lazy to work out a good coil holder. All the designs from Thingiverse don’t solve the problem how to get the coil onto without respooling (and introducing knots) in my opinion.
@Gregor_Luetolf yes, that’s my biggest problem with faberdashery: no spools!
I’ve complained to them about this and they said they’re working on it. However it’s really nice of them to ship free samples of filament whenever you buy.
