Which PLA are my European printer operators using? I am printing on an Ultimaker. Right now I have been printing with Ultimaker’s own PLA but I have som strange “dots” on the PLA further into several rolls. Should I try Colorfabb and/or Faberdashery next?

Ping @Ketil_Froyn , @Gregor_Luetolf , @Erik_de_Bruijn , @Florian_Horsch_flouS .

Have you tried ColorFabb? PLA/PHA blend is interesting.

I have not tested anything besides Ultimaker’s own which I believe is a direct import from china.

What sort of dots? I have been using ultimaker s filament for a while now without issue

Afaik Ultimaker isn’t currently and never before imported some low-quality China filaments. You should send them some pictures so that they can provide their suppliers with feedback.

Regarding high-quality filaments: @ColorFabb_Helian_Pol is AWESOME! We also have it in stock at http://www.3dreamfactory.com, but closer to you there’s @Daniel_Sjostrand . Drop him a line - I’m pretty sure he has some stock in Stockholm.

Faberdashery is also very nice. On a world-wide scale there’s also @Diamond_Age_Solution . But that’s about it. Faberdashery, colorfabb & Vik/Diamond Age.

I favor Colorfabb as well, responds very good to retractions!

I use faberdashery’s and I’ve never had a problem.
Great quality PLA.

faberdashery is creamy. definitely get some from them.

Thanks all.

@Florian_Horsch_flouS , the rumor came from one of the other European vendors of PLA. Sorry for spreading bad words :frowning:

No worries - I could also be wrong and they changed suppliers. But knowing their approach to quality I would doubt that.

Let us know how you like the two European premium offers. I totally would recommend to get some material from both of them. Both have their ups (Faberdashery: superior colors, diameter / colorFabb: nice feel, great retraction, on rolls) and downs (Faberdashery: no rolls, just reels --> often leads to knots / colorFabb: small inner diameter of rolls --> bad for bowden setups (high friction), etc.)

Got in some +Faberdashery PLA today and could not believe they also ship 100m without a roll… why?

Based in Switzerland I order from one of these vendors:

Fabberworld (CH) http://www.fabberworld.com/

Swiss RepRap (CH) https://swissreprap.com/

Faberdashery (UK) http://www.faberdashery.co.uk/ through http://deltatower.ch/

Ultimaker (NL) https://shop.ultimaker.com/en/consumables.html

Orbi-Tech (DE) http://www.orbi-tech.de/shop/Schweissdraht:::30.html

Because they deeply believe in quality over usability. They say that they only can provide utmost precise diameter when not forcing it onto a roll.

Especially in a bowden setup large coils, instead of small diameter coils from a roll really make a difference friction-wise in the tube.

So I get their point, but hate to work with it. But that’s also just because I’m too lazy to work out a good coil holder. All the designs from Thingiverse don’t solve the problem how to get the coil onto without respooling (and introducing knots) in my opinion.

@Gregor_Luetolf yes, that’s my biggest problem with faberdashery: no spools!
I’ve complained to them about this and they said they’re working on it. However it’s really nice of them to ship free samples of filament whenever you buy.

Would you get knots when just rolling the PLA on say an empty Ultimaker roll?

@Peter_Parnes don’t know, I’m more up to roll it on a large half-empty roll of SwissRepRap PLA
