While printing the LCD case for my SD3 revamp using the Cohesion 3D board, my Da Vinci 2.0 ate itself. Ate itself I say! Good golly! The idler side of the X-Carriage shattered at the belt pulley. Bligh me! Now the Mod-T is down too (fried stepper). 2 printers out of 5 are offline. Geez. That just means one thing…that’s right, time to take one out of storage and build it. Booohooohahahahahahaha!

I’m having a similar issue with my Da Vinci 1.0. The idler side of the pulley has a poor design with the locking bolt being tapped into the plastic carriage guide. I tried to see if customer support could help me out and perhaps sell me another carriage guide…but no. So I’m waiting for this day…while I slowly build another printer from scratch.

Mine is exactly one month past the end of warranty. Don’t get me wrong, the printer, when it works, works well, but this is annoying. I pinged customer support. I find it hard to imagine they would outright refuse to sell me a replacement part even if it means I repair it myself. If they decline to assist or repair costs are outrageous I will have to invent my own tensioner and secure it to the carriage…or trash the whole damned thing recycling it for parts.

I saw this tensioner on Thingiverse today. When I get home, I will print it on my PrintRite and see if I can get this thing back online. I have this sneaky suspicion that the XYZ folks are going to tell me that I’m out of luck…

I’ll be interested to see if they will replace it, and for what price. I asked about it and was treated like I was crazy. The more I thought about it, the more I realized it was only going to be a replacement to a part with a faulty design (and would probably fail a year later as well).

If you need me to print you a part to get yours done please let me know. I am happy to help. If you look in Thingiverse you will see the tensioner meant for the 1.0. I am hoping it works in the 2.0A. If you want one and don’t mind that it’s made of PLA (I will do an ABS one next), I will print a second one and you can secure it with a locknut.

You can print the modified version from thingiverse that uses bearings. Works much better.

The tensioner? I only saw one. Printed it and going to test it next

Yes that’s the one I printed.

BTW, where do I get the pulley wheel? Mine appears to have fallen into one of the Da Vinci’s many crevices – strike that, found it. Now to get those bearings.

Oh man, this whole concept is just b-a-d bad. I am going to need to add a washer to put between the spring and pulley so that the spring has something to push against instead of the pulley’s flanges. The bearings get here tomorrow so we should be back online tomorrow night. Phew.
