While the thermistors included on the back of silicone heaters are generally inaccurate, taping one somewhere else isn’t exactly a better option, either. So why not do it right once and for all?

nice. thanks

Did someone test the temperature-difference between this and a thermistor mounted inside the heater?

Measuring the temperature at the side of the heated bed seem to be not the perfect position as it will always be colder than your main printing area. Why not use the middle ? Your silicon heater has a nice hole for it …

He said, that he couldn’t tap there. As far as my thermal measurements went, I can tell, that on the outside there is only a gap of a few degrees to the middle…

@Thomas_Sanladerer do you know how the aluminum bed is “coated” (or is it as usual just a sheet of PEI stuck to the bed?) BTW is this a commercial product we can buy or a handmade & limited edition bed? Looks gorgeous

The PEI is anodized into/onto the surface of the aluminium, like you do it with colors… A very thin, permanent layer, not really visible either… It just looks like simple aluminium, but the prints stick very well and just pops off, if the bed cools down after printing. In germany, you can buy it commercially and custom-made aswell.

@Rene_Jurack thanks, would not have thought it is chemically possible! Would you have some specific seller to tell, as I struggle a bit to find one (I’m in the EU). I would like to give it a try

+René Jurack thanks, for the info … pls could you tell me which German dealer or supplier anodizes PEI onto Aluminum?

+René Jurack I am also curious about any supplier of anodized PEI onto Aluminum?

@Nathan_Walkner Sry, but: No. It is eloxed. Check process pic for reference: http://forums.reprap.org/file.php?335,file=58386

thanks Rene. Pls could you send a link of the post on the German reprap forum. Am very interested to see this.thanks

If you don’t like it being called anodized or eloxing (anodizing aluminium = eloxing), let’s call it “putting some plastic into the surface of aluminium via a high current in a bath”.

René Jurack - really would love to read more about this … coating of PEI… pls could share the link of the post in the German reprap forum pls
