Who has tips for reducing filament oozing while Dual Extrusion #3Dprinting on the Leapfrog Creatr w/ Simplify3D?
I have not run S3D in dual extruder mode yet.
I had problems getting the firmware to perform commanded retract before switching extruders, and your problem looks very similar.
Before the tool change command, I added a “G4 P1000”, no quotes.
Up retraction to about 4 and the speed to 9000.
@Jeff_DeMaagd Thanks! Will try that!
@Wayne_Friedt Can it handle that speed? I noticed that it would grind the filament instead of retracting when going too fast. Maybe I need to tighten the gear/bearing distance?
@Nick_Lievendag That’s what i do, mine does not grind as it is just a short distance. I suggest you find what works best for you.
I use 3-6mm retraction depending on the size of the printed object.
About retraction speed I’m not sure but I think I have it capped at 3000 in the firmware.
You can reduce it, but you won’t beat it, no matter what you do. Long retracts between nozzles, lower temperatures all help
The ooze shield in cura however is a really great feature that takes care of much of this and I thoroughly recommend it.
S3D doesn’t have this feature afaik, but you can approximate it with the skirt feature by increasing the skirt layers to be tall enough that it shields the full height of the print.
New versions of Cura aren’t usable for the Leapfrog anymore since they removed the support for USB manual control.
I’ve seen add-ons to bring it back but apparently has issues so I went back to Repetier Host/Slic3r.
Slic3r also has ooze prevention options.
@Tim_L You can just save GCODE in Cura and open in repetier. New Repetier has Cura Engine built in as a slicing option. There’s nothing stopping you using Cura GCODE on your leapfrog.
Ah yes now you mention that. I remember reading it in the update notes bu tI haven’t installed the latest Repetier yet. Still too bury with my motorcycles atm
This is perfect in the way it is.
Temperature. Go as low as you can go. (180 for PLA) That really helps. But dual-extrusion need more software tweaks.
The wipe&prime tower help, as well as the ooze-shield. But more can be done with temperature things.
Also, manual control is not gone in Cura, you just need to change the printing dialog in the preferences. But I do not think manual control is really needed if you setup proper start&end code.
Retraction speed to 6000 does nothing. The firmware limits it. Most likely to 25mm/s
Indeed. Since Cura engine is now in Repetier there’s no need for the manual controll.
