Why can’t I open any of me STLl files in Cura!? How can I fix the problem?
Can you provide some pictures so we can diagnose the problem?
Pictures of what? I recent downloaded the latest version of Cura but when I click on the ‘open file’ button and pick an STL nothing comes up…
I don’t know what ‘open file’ button you’re referring to. The correct button you should be clicking on is the ‘Load’ button in the upper left hand corner of the viewer. If you are, it’s possible Cura isn’t interpreting the correct sizing of the STL and it is opening but as a very small size. I’ve had this happen with a few files. If this is the case, after you load the file three buttons should pop up at the bottom left the viewer. Click the middle of the three buttons labeled ‘Scale’ to resize your model.
The button in the top left corner is the button I’ve been pressing. I’ll make sure I check to make sure it’s not just really small. Thanks.
the three buttons don’t pop up. :-/ Also,
whenever I try to add a file it still says “please load a 3D model” in the bottom right corner.
By the way, I have a mac.
Make sure the file is a .stl filetype. I use Cura on both Mac and PC. If you could provide screenshots I may be able to help better. Otherwise you may just have to uninstall and reinstall the program.
Let me know if you can’t open this: https://plus.google.com/u/0/photos/113205395504590606514/albums/6301316203470792001/6301316208310782418?sqi=117814474100552114108&sqsi=d59c5156-0c5c-4844-8acc-c0d4f31e93a2
Also, I already tried uninstalling and reinstalling.
Ah you’re using the new version of Cura. They haven’t really optimized it for 3rd party printers yet which is why I use version 15.04.6. Open the link below and click on ‘Download Cura 15.04.6’.
ok. Thanks!
I can load .stl with Cura 2.1 on a Mac, latest El Capitain. I use 15.04 for the Cura slicing for production but 2.1 works on my system.
Are you sure those are valid .stl files? Are you able to load them in other slicers or Netfabb on that Mac? Put one of the files in a Dropbox or like and I can load it here to see if that’s the issue.
I’ve always been able to load and print them just fine. some I downloaded from thingiverse and some I designed myself. I’ll check it out anyway though.
Right now I can’t load a model into either version. :-/
I’m trying to set it up with the prusa i3
The printer model shouldn’t matter if you can’t even load a model into Cura. Have you set up your printer parameters in Cura or loaded a printer profile?
<-- this is what shows up when I open Cura 15.04.6 and this is what happens after I try to open an stl file.–>
a shadow appeared and it says ‘warning object scaled down’. however… i can’t scale it up. Then it all just disappears
Try deleting cura and then reinstalling it
@Tim_Gaertner is the file binary or ascii? If you could send it to me (upload to google drive and share the link) I can see if I can get it to load on my computers to see if it’s the file or if its your system somehow.
@David_Wolkoff he said he already tried reinstalling it.
