Why is it that whenever you mention 3D printing to someone who is not that knowledgeable on the subject, the first thing they say is, “Oh I don’t like those because you can print guns on them”. Sometimes I am amazed at the ignorance of people. Sorry for the rant…just needed to vent to people who understand.
I don’t like guns either, but that goes a bit far.
@Booker_Farr I understand that you can but what I get frustrated at is people blaming machines for the problems of the world. You can hack someones personal information on a computer but that doesn’t make computers the problem it’s the people doing the crime that are the problem.
Fear sells news => Media cultures fear => Every media piece about 3D printing mentions guns.
Point them to the medical stuffs that they’re developing printing for in retaliation.

Ooh, good point, chocolate does seem to calm people down.
Tell them you have a lathe and can make a real gun with a tube a nail and a spring.
That tends to make them change their view point.
Or say have you a car, they kill people to.

Too many people are gullible to what they hear/see on TV. The talking heads on TV wouldn’t be that untruthful.
You should ask them if they also don’t like stores because you can buy guns there…
Also, we should print one and fire off some rounds with it. Or make one of those shotgun shell firing tubes (forgot what they’re called) and show them how easy it is to make a gun from hardware store components and ask if they hate hardware stores now…

Whenever I’m demoing 3D printers, that’s the first question I get too. I always tell them that if we ever get to the point where a 3D printer is the easiest way to obtain a firearm, we will be living in a wonderful society!
