Wiring External drivers to Smoothie

Hi,
New to this electronics stuff. Trying to figure how to wire the external drivers for a cnc. I have looked through 53 pages of posts and not seen any examples. I have searched youtube, googled, binged, and still have found no examples. So I am posting what I think of how I should be wiring the board. So before I release any magic smoke could anyone tell me if I am in the right direction. Any suggestions or comments will be greatly appreciated.

  1. You don’t need to provide 24 to the board in that setup, it’s already getting 5 and doesn’t control any power
  2. You don’t risk burning things up when wiring logic signals at 5v
  3. From what I see, this is the open drain wiring as described in the documentation, should work ( except you don’t need to jumper the drivers 2 and 5, just wire both Y to the driver 2 outouts and it’ll be enough )

Hey Mr.Calm.

Were you successful with this wiring?

Im struggling with the wiring in my cnc machine using common cathode. The only difference on mine is that im trying to use external drives on all axis.

Why are you using pull+ on xmin? Im trying to use the provided scheme general-appendixes#external-drivers

mogwaiPT,
I don’t know. I finally finished it last weekend, and now I have to work on Saturday, so hopefully Saturday afternoon or evening I will be trying for the first time.
I am still looking for a config file for CNC. I found one on openbuilds that someone posted I will use that as my template I guess.
I used the 5v pin from the endstops to the external drivers like the pic shows. Hopefully this weekend.

The default config file on the wiki IS a CNC config file ( and a laser config fiel, and a 3D printer config file. just don’t activate things you don’t use ).

DO NOT use other config files you find around, it makes helping you hell on earth.

Got it.
Thanks
