With all the fun news about  did you know they are violating the OpenCV

With all the fun news about #Makerbot did you know they are violating the OpenCV and PCL libraries open-source licenses in their digitizer software?

That would not surprise me. Given that they are capable of patenting other peoples ideas they probably view violating licences as acceptable.

The problem is it needs someone or a body to take legal action against them to stop it. Anyone have the financial resources to do that?

OpenCV is not a small project, so that could be really interesting if they continue to violate the license.

Hey OpenCV is just too good not to patent it, right?

And for extra info. The 5th gen Replicator is running Linux, with Apache, U-Boot.
So, @MakerBot1 got kernel sources for us?
(I’ll report back when we unpack the filesystem image. For fun and exploits)

@Daid_Braam I would bet cashmoney that they haven’t modified the kernel from where they got it, and if asked for source, they would just point you to the original source.

Modified or not, you need to be able to supply the sources, and a few other things like putting some license stuff visible in your software.
For example, my Panasonic TV has some licenses for Busybox and a few other packages deeply hidden in the menus.

@Daid_Braam And seriously I do not think that it hurts business to tell the truth, neither the customer (and obviously not the original authors). It only hurts the ego of super-chiefs that will not admit they do benefit from people that were not interested in getting money out of their work in the first place. Very childish indeed.
