With what program can I edit the stl files. I tried opening them in TopSolid but it doesn’t work.
@andunhill What version of TopSolid?
TopSolid7. When I open it I receive a list of available comand line options and an ok button that closes the window.
+andunhill why don’t you use the STEP files instead? You can edit those and will get a better result in the end aswell. Also I can support you on editing STEP files in TS7. I don’t like playing around with STL’s.
I managed at last to open the STEP files. I want to ask you if you know a more simple model that uses akerman steering and has only one differential.
simple stl you can edit/repair in netfab, or autocad have some program for editing stl before print
I take them through sketchup to convert them to a solid (I have to remember the format) and then bring them into ViaCAD which dissolves the triangles that occur in .STL and makes all the surfaces editable. For some reason, importing an STL directly does not work quit the same. ViaCAD is not free but plenty affordable for MAC or PC and a very powerful 3D CAD for the price.
The STEP file of the whole car is nice, but hard to work with if your computer is lacking in RAM. ViaCAD handles it quite well and I only have 4GB of RAM on my MAC, but sometimes having the individual parts is easier and quicker.
