Wondering if anyone has ever attempted using the HC4067 Multiplexer as a means to drive multiple strips with the same data/clk lines? I decided to test it out using 2 x 12pixel APA102 strips on an Uno board with SPI set to 8Mhz https://www.instagram.com/p/BETfdzqxDUK/ and it worked PERFECTLY! I’m going to attempt a larger strip set up this week on an ESP8266 and a Rpi. I know that FastLED has multiple output support for the Teensy
I have simpley split the data and clk lines to multiple strands without any issues. A particular example had a single data/clk pair split to 10 separate strips. I don’t think you need the multiplexer.
@Rick_Winkler You need a multiplexer if you are driving multiple strips with different animations for each strip. If you wish to drive 10 strips with identical animations, then YES you do not need a multiplexer
interesting… how do you address the Leds?
i’m trying to wrap my head around the idea, but I’m not sure how this works…
very cool.
Oh I just looked up the datasheet on the chip… you’ve got some tricky coding going on eh’’ I’d love to see an example this is some cutting edge shit… Man, so creative…
@Jon_Bruno check out my instagram account https://www.instagram.com/wow_elec_tron/ all my work is there
I already wandered around in there… I particularly love the orb piece
I would stand and stare for hours if I had access to your GIT
lol
@Jon_Bruno I Posted some example code for the RPi here https://github.com/leonyuhanov/rpi_apa102driver/blob/master/multiplexedTest.cpp its essentialy the same as this Arduino example but at a much higher speed
Oh man! Thanks I can’t wait!!
Looking NOW!
Whoa… I’ve gotta be honest… I’m way out of my league on this one… I love what your doing but there’s no way I could even begin to come up with stuff like this… Amazing work… I’m your #1 fan. I’m not familiar enough with working with the RasPi
@Jon_Bruno thanks mate, feel free to ask any questions im happy to help. I dont post code for any of my works on GIT for IP reasons, but base code and help i give out freely
as do all the awesome people in the fastled community
Yes this is an amazing community…
Thanks for your offer… I will probably take you up on it one day
