Woohoo! Someone deleted the latest industrial equipment spam! I wish someone would give me money and space to buy a laser which cuts though thick steel like that. It would also be nice if they paid the power bill…
meh, if you want to cut through thick steel then what you really want is a water jet.
Is a water jet faster?
we use plasma a work to cut over 1/2" thick, easy. its like butta
@Bryan_Barnes_BBmech7 Plasma is like cutting through steel with a butter knife compared to a water jet. I knew a guy who’d stack the steel a foot high and cut it on his jet. He got a finish that looked like someone spent their life sanding all of the edges too.
very true. less (almost none) edge distortion too. i would be careful with Cold Formed Steel or otherwise in and operation where you are removing material unevenly or of a weird shape. it will distort and move… well most CF steel will.
I plasma cut my steel plate before but the tolerance is not as good as laser cut. Is it just a problem with the machine that I used?
not likely plasma is going to give you a rougher edge with a little bit of side sweep depending on how the torch is mounted. laser on the other hand is going to give you a very fine kerf with a straighter cutting edge. both of them will heat treat (to a degree) the edge plasma more so than laser.
Guilty of deletion and neglection…should have picked up on that rubbish earlier.
