Would it be worth anything to make a A wheelset up like the ones that you guys have with the staffs only when the wheel spins it shows an image would that be difficult

It’s been done. It has its challenges, but certainly doable.

Thanks for the fast responce

By the way, neither one of those, nor the others on YouTube, translate into you yourself not experimenting and creating your own. That’s the reason I’m also doing my own … because the system I want is about $1,300 and I’m not willing to pay for it, so I’ll build my own. Not to mention it’ll be better than that high priced one.

Thats my exact thoughts i would rather make my own and make it my own but i would need a 28012 (i think thats the number) or equivelent strip to make it work correct?

WS2812. Not necessarily. You can make it work with whatever strip you want to use. I’m building my poi batons with the LPD8806 ICs and separate LEDs because they are faster than the WS28x series. So I custom built my ‘sticks’ …

Oh i see well right now all i have are rgb led analog strips which i know i cant use but the closest thing i have that will work are the 3 leds per ic that are old 6803 chips…is there anything i can do with those you think?

This is a picture taken while I was manually placing the LEDs, getting ready to reflow everything. The LPD8806 drivers are on the bottom of the PCB (and were already attached at the time.) http://www.thekirchners.net/20130724-0011.jpg

After reflowing, I cut the boards into strips. The ones in the background are already cut (but you can’t tell because they are out of focus.) There’s a video somewhere of my ‘human pick and place’ machine when I was doing the drivers on the other side …

Holy crap im nowhere near that im bearly soldering efficintly haha

Meh, you can still use those 6803s, just don’t generate stuff that’s high ‘definition’ as far as the image goes. You know, large blocks or colors, as opposed to say a detailed image of a person’s face.

We all started somewhere. You too will one day get there. It’s easier than you think.

Yeah i dont mind doing that what i can do is use the new blocks i have coming in used vertical which seems like it could work pretty good just might be a bit heavy idk tho

That’s where you start working on your own design and make it your own. Maybe even improve on what’s out there … Options are plentiful.

I shared an album with, I think you … at least, I hope it was you (hard to tell since you don’t have a profile picture to match to). Not sure how or where you’d get that notification though …

Yeah i agree i always like trying to make things better even though that rarely happens haha

I dont know ill look but i do need a profile picture

I cant find an album sorry

Yeah, it says it shared it with you (privately) … I’ll just grab the URL, hang on …

That’s what the custom strips I made look like …
