Wow, wouldn’t have expected this with MatterHackers’ filament. Found print had finished but filament was broke off with about 6" still left in extruder (got lucky on that one). Looks like it broke from some entanglements going on. I’ve heard of people having these kinds of problems, but this is a first for me. It looks like the pig tail from the end of the roll was fed up through the filament instead of out through a hole in the reel as well as some other criss-cross action.
damn
That just happened to me too, wondering how others prevent the spool from doing that.
@Bruce_Lunde , just as a quick follow-up, I keep all of my spools in sealable ziploc containers and always feed the end of the filament through a hole on the lip of the reel to keep from having the filament potentially get itself tangled. In this case, there wasn’t anything I could’ve done cause it just looks like it somehow got wound like this.
@Tim_Sills Thanks, that’s a good idea for storage.
@Mark_Rehorst , absolutely, everything you described is exactly how I handle mine. I let enough filament feed through the hole on the spool flange so that it can’t get out, and when I’m ready to insert into the extruder I won’t let go of it. I know I’d had it happen before where the filament slipped out of my hand, and it doesn’t take much to whip back onto the spool and somehow get tangled. I’ve been printing the last year with a vertical feed from above the printer (Prusa style printer), but I printed for years with a CD holder to one side that also worked fine…it’s just a matter of being diligent on managing the filament.
Same with me, 26hours print broken because this, grrrr
