Wow. You can get a nice amount of heat out of a 12V 40W heater cartridge and a 12V 750mA power module (which I borrowed from an old cable modem).

They’re basically a coil of nichrome wire, wrapped around a ceramic core, stuffed inside a stainless steel housing. They can get hot enough to melt aluminum. @Josef_Prusa has done it.

This was only at about 22.2% power and the temperature was hot enough to curl plastic.

careful on the DC brick side. Some bricks don’t handle shorts (or near shorts that these heaters are) well. I have an ex-white brick that turned partly brown from overheating.
