Yay -- a li'l' silicon bootie for my E3D-V6 hot end.

Yay – a li’l’ silicon bootie for my E3D-V6 hot end. So next time I’m in the middle of a 5.5 hour nylon print, it doesn’t drop a flake of jet-black carbon into the middle of the wall. Well, that’s the theory. Supposedly it protects the hot part of the hot end from the cooling fan as well, so it should win/win?

[And as an aside: aren’t phone cameras getting good? It boggles me that I can take such a clear picture of such a small part, just plonked on my office desk with normal (although admittedly decent) office lighting. (Nexus 6P).]

Between the boot and the upgraded thermistor, it seemed like a no-brainer upgrade. Now I just need to install it.

Just remember to redo pid tuning.

@Oystein_Krog Argh, thank you. I hadn’t thought of that. I guess it’ll heat up quicker and cool more slowly.

Glad I saw this… would have spaced on that too. Finally got my offset for my bed-leveling dialed in, so really don’t want to mess that up, but really want to swap out the new parts for the same reasons

I highly recommend it for PETG - prevents greasy stringers

Smart, wearing protection

@Carlos_Porto Well that’s no good for reprap then is it? How’s one printer supposed to produce another?

Just a note for anyone reading this later – not impressed by the bootie. It’s now languishing in a drawer somewhere. I’m surprised at E3D, but there you are – I’ll let them off as the E3D V6 hot end is so damn good.
