S9 engraver.

Hw much smoke am I expecting to be dealing with? I hope to runthis in the basement this winter. A small hepa air filter enough or should Ibe thinking hood and outdoor exhaust?

Guess I’m wondering if I should buy the enclosure (or make one) for the unit…

Highly dependent on what you are doing and what materials.

For larger continuous engraving, you may need an exhaust port.

For smaller stuff, a local multistage filter and fan may be ok.

I suggest just testing when you get the unit …

Hey thanx fo the response. I will need to experiment with thickness for cutting and depth of engraving.
I’ll probably setup an exhaust of some sort to start out. Figure I’ll go too far several times as I experiment.

I saw a pretty cool enclosure online and though of making one.

Pls share the online enclosure I will eventually build one for mine…

I’ll post up what I do. Honestly a decent size cardboard box (heavy duty) would work! Ya, been thinking a bit…

I was referring to a link to the one you found online

Simple search for smoke hoods and you’ll find them starting ~$50. Issue is size! Be very careful of what you buy. For my S9, Query Aliexpress (think it’s against the rules to link directly or mention $$).

I will say for the cost of one that sizes well, it’s much cheaper to build one. Especially since I have most everything in the shop to do so. Buying a piece of acrylic is ~$12 for 12" x 16".

Nope. If you personally have a commercial interest in something, disclose it. The substantial majority of what you post shouldn’t be related to stuff in which you have a commercial interest, which means you need to start posting community stuff before mentioning anything commercial. But linking out to goods and mentioning prices of stuff that doesn’t benefit you? Totally OK.

So if a vendor shows up and starts posting about their product on aliexpress or amazon or their own web site without contributing to the community, that’s not OK. But for you as a consumer to link to stuff that was helpful to you? Awesome, link out and mention how much it cost you!

Linking to stuff you are thinking about buying and asking for advice? Perfect, please do!

(We do close down sock puppets, though. Those attacks are typically pretty easy to spot. You are clearly not a sock puppet!)
