Does anybody know how to delete a thingiverse account? Their TOS say there’d be instructions somewhere (which i couldn’t find), so i shot Makerbot an email asking them to delete my account for me. As expected, they didn’t bother to reply. So since i really don’t want to have my name on that Makerbot-infested site anymore, i’d be glad if someone has an idea here.
Hm… Post a handful of banned designs and get your account banned as a result?
@Gareth_Owen gun parts can get you into deep legal trouble here in Europe. I think i’ll just cross-post a couple designs from #makerlove , that should do it.
You’ll be forever known as the man who dildoed his way out of a tough situation.
@Stephen_Baird you don’t happen to know who’s the current record holder for largest 3D printed dildo?
Is that the record for largest dildo printed, or largest dildo used?
@Thomas_Sanladerer Did you seriously just ask to compare (3d printed) penis sizes?
@Thomas_Sanladerer , dont do the Dildo thing, its a known fact that Brennis haves a patent on it and they wiill sue you.
@Nicolas_Arias wait, really?
@Thomas_Sanladerer penis shaped cookie cutters get you booted? maybe some jello molds?
@Thomas_Sanladerer they have patents for everything 3d printer related so…
@Gareth_Owen Having the files is not illegal in many countries, however exporting weapons plans is illegal in many (including the US), that is why the liberator was taken down originally
Wow, that was fast! Reported my own thing and within 15 minutes, the whole account had disappeared.
I wonder if they’d get the message if a bunch of people followed the same pattern of request deletion, hear nothing, then post banned content and self report to get the account deleted…
Long ago I deleted all my files except one that I had linked for a reprap contest. You’ve inspired me to remove it and get myself banned.
Maybe we should come up with an “official” objectionable STL to post so they better get the message.
For me, it’s the culmination of the closed sourcing of makerbot, plus the Stratasys lawsuit, plus especially this interview: http://makezine.com/2013/12/03/stratasys-lawsuit-patents-and-more-an-interview-with-makerbots-bre-pettis/
That, and a viable alternative in the form of youmagine (https://www.youmagine.com/).
@Billy the model of the large makerlove buttplug did the trick for me http://makerlove.com/Free-3D-Sex-Toys/page23/index.html
@Christopher_Benjamin It’s the whole direction Makerbot is moving in - they’re acting as if they invented 3D printing all by themselves (they are even coining the word “makerbotting” for 3D printing), treat their customers and community like dirt and Bre Pettis, who once acted as he was all about sharing and learning, is now supporting the legal action Stratasys/Makerbot is pursuing against Afinia (which i think is just the tip of the iceberg, with much more to come).
there are several alternatives now. as well
Just email me if you want to be deleted from Thingiverse, no need to post toys.
Seriously considering it myself, but I think that stuff on sites like thingiverse (or flickr, or youtube, etc.) should be archival, and permalinks should never be broken, at least not without redirection. I might just copy all of my postings to Youmagine and pull the files from thingiverse, replacing them with links to the new location. I hate it when people do that too, but when the site and company go rotten out from under you…
Also need to find time to post all the stuff I’ve been making and not adding to thingiverse since MBI turned to the dark side.
