Having issues getting pla to stick on my heated bed… Using kapton take and put some glue ontop that i use for abs. Any suggestions?
what temp is you bed and extruder ?
Extruder 200 bed 90 as of now… Right now it is working but not sure if it will last
I use hairspray straight on glass, at 100c.
Tried hairspray and glass at 90 and didn’t work well
Maybe it was the wrong hairspray. They all don’t have the same holding power. I have had some that didn’t work either, but if you get the correct kind it is great. I use some non aerosol kind at my local store.
Bump up first layer temp and first layer extrusion width. Then use any form of PVA glue ( I use craft bond strength glue stick). Heat bed (mine is glass top) to 70C and make sure you get a good squish on the first layer. Run the first layer slower.
When I do this my problem is getting prints off the bed, not getting them stuck in the first place.
The problem is my printer normally doesnt do pla and i have “hacked” it to use slic3r to set the temps. First it always heats up to 210/90 so first layer change wont happen. If it cools after the first layer is down then it will pop off
Maybe you can unhack your hack and then be able to set it in the GUI instead.

This printer uses modified gcode so i have to convert and edit each slic3r file before sending to the printer. But, what i am doing now seems to be working
What printer is this? I do pla on glue stick to a cold bed on all the printers I work with. I usually have great results.
Iys the xyz printing davinci 1.0. They only allow abs cartridges to be bought so no rolls of filament. That is what i jave “hacked” so i can use big rolls of filament and pla. My kapton tape peeled up because i put it on cold (newby) but the pla sticked to it with glue well
Its a lower end printer. Im in highschool and could only afford this. I just thought a restricted printer is better than none. But i have gotten around the restrictions
Have you tried blue painters tape? It’s a good balance for me… just tape (not enough stick), tape and heated bed@70C(just right), glue stick (I’m never getting this darned thing off!!)
Ive been told that painters tape doesnt do well with 90c heat
Use “Rave 4X MEGA” Hairspray from Walmart on a heated glass plate. 75 Deg Celsius is good for me. It even works with ABS. No more warping, I start the print and walk away. ABS snaps of after cooling down. For PLA you have to use a little force to get it off. Make sure your bed is properly leveled.
So far i think i have found a solution. Just gotta bump up the extruder a few degrees and everything will be good. Its been 30 min in and the print is still stuck. So far so good
As always, every printer is different, but I like to do a 185C nozzle and 45C bed. My secret sauce is glass and glue stick.
For PLA, 90C is a little toasty. You will see a lot of recommendations in the 190C Nozzle and 60C bed.
Don’t forget that initial layer adhesion is also driven by the starting height of your nozzle. Too high, you won’t stick. Too low, you will smoosh the extrudate too much and drag it all over the place.
Depending on exactly what’s in your PLA filament, 90c is probably at or beyond the point at which the filament will soften… so it’s overkill for your bed.
I actually get very good prints on an unheated bed with blue painters tape, but any clean and flat surface with very basic hairspray on it should work ~60c or so.
