Hi Everyone I have a couple of questions
What is the difference between the 3 Led strips ? And can I connect just the strip together on the third link. If I buy the one on the first link and them can I connect 3 more strips together on the same row?

And one last question can I connect these strips to an Arduino bored so I can make them chase and other things of course depending on the codes ?

Ok to quickly give you answers, from what I can tell all three strips are essentially the same. The LEDs themselves are as bright as the ws2812b LEDs that can be individually addressed however these LEDs all the light exact same color depending on the controller and run as 12v. In other words if the controller says “red” they all go red. They can blend colors, but again, all change at the same time. They cannot be driven by Arduino directly because arduinos run at 5 volts or 3.3v. I guess an arduino can send a signal to a module to control them, but not in the sense you usually associate with ws2812b leds.

@Roger_Kolasinski Thank you for your response. Yes I’m aware that the Arduino is a low voltage out put. That I do need an additional power supply and a LM 317 transistor or driver for that matter. But can I make them chase and all that good stuff. Or is it a different strips ?

Ok this is what I’m trying to do… Can i do it with this strips https://youtu.be/NhOxCGzSEYw

Most probably not.

@Thomas_Runge Thank so much any idea what type of strips I need to buy ?

As @Roger_Kolasinski said above, these LEDs are not addressable so they will all always be the same colour. They are not capable of making the pattern in the video. Sorry.

Look for addressable LED strips or WS2812B strips instead.

You can not control individual with Arduino but can control individual strips. See know how https://twit.tv/shows/know-how/episodes/250?autostart=false

Here is link to driver you would need http://m.ebay.com/itm/182206999059?_mwBanner=1

@Peter_Hanse Thank you :sunglasses:

Ok I have attached a few screenshots and links so that you guys can help me pick out the one that best fits what I am looking for. I am getting a bit confused with all these numbers, this is my first time buying one of these and I do not want to mess up. On the links I have a controller, because what I want to do is use these as christmas lights, but to later on upgrade it by adding it to an arduino board.
I am not understanding what they mean by 30,60 and 144.
On the first pic i am looking for either the one on theop or the one on the bottom, in other words, the black ones. But I am looking for 16ft of this. I prefer the one on the bottom, which is the 60 i believe, according to what they are saying. But can I get this in 16ft? Please I hope someone can help me out by telling me which is the one I should order. thank you in advance for your help!

The 30, 60 and 144 numbers you are seeing refer to how many LEDs per meter are installed on the strip…144 LEDs per meter―like in pic #1 (2)―is quite dense.

Usually, you can buy the individually addressable LED strips in 1 meter or 5 meter increments…but you can always join more together, though you may have to inject power at more than just the head of the strip if you have a lot of LEDs.

For Arduino control with the FastLED library, some of the most commonly used strips use ws2811, ws2812, or ws2812B chips. These are easy to set up and get blinking. Look for one of these numbers when buying.

The full list of FastLED supported chips is here: Chipset reference · FastLED/FastLED Wiki · GitHub

Also, Adafruit has a fairly comprehensive basic hook-up guide for that WS281XX family of chips; they call them “Neopixels” there, but the diagrams and cautions will serve you well:

Good luck!

@Chad_Eby thank you so much for your response. I was really going out of my mind with this. lol
One last question, the length of the strips? Are they 16ft? How is that part?

Well, 5 meters works out to 16.4042 feet…so if you buy a 5 meter reel, that’s pretty close.

@Chad_Eby ok so you think this is my best bet . My wife says this is the one. Is she correct? Because I need 4 rolls http://www.ebay.com/itm/WS2812B-5050-RGB-LED-Strip-5M-150-300-Leds-144-60LED-M-Individual-Addressable-5V-/371432213255?var=&hash=item567b15cb07:m:mtQ859zLUV_msJ6iSTwfRDg

But did you say Christmas lights?
