I have a shapeoko 3 and am in the market for some software that can generate g code. I use auto cad so it needs to be able to take dxf files. I am not doing 3d only cutting 2d stuff out of sheets of carbon fiber. I want something easy that is not going to be crazy hard to lean. Any recommendation?
Thanks

Check out Cut3D by Vectric…I learned it by just watching a few videos online.

@Jose_Chambrot
will do thanks

I see that you are into Miniquads…are you cutting carbon fiber? Also where are you located? I am in Miami, FL.

@Jose_Chambrot
yes I am cutting carbon fiber for mini quad I am in NC usa

@Jose_Chambrot
should I download cut2d or cut3d?

Give CamBam a try too (you can use it for free for a while). More flexible (but difficult to use) than Cut3D (which is not suited for 2D operations though, for which you can use makercam or jscut).

@Miguel_Sanchez i have tried cambam but could not get the joint tool to work

I use Fusion 360 very powerful not hard to learn. I have never used CAD software and was able to get going without too much effort. I still have a long way to go though. It might be an easier run for you.

Miguel beat me to the punch. I recommend CamBam too. Although I use RhinoCAM at the University, it’s pricey. I teach CamBam on occasion where students might want their own copy. It’s very good for the price. http://www.cambam.info/

@SonicStrikeFPV I reckon you select two or more lines from a DXF file and press Ctrl+J to join them. I am not a Cambam power user though. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jwMQXJCmyHc

@Miguel_Sanchez
yes and nothing happened

@SonicStrikeFPV I think there is a distance threshold (if line ends are farther away than the threshold then it won’t join them).

Sorry YES! I meant Cut2d…sorry about that. I have also used Cambam and its a bit more powerful than Cut2d…but cut2d was the easiest for me sending to the CNC machine with Chilipeppr.

I use vcarve pro and I can’t imagine life with out it.

well, we do list some stuff at: Shapeoko CNC Router, Rigid, Accurate, Reliable, and Affordable — for AutoCAD, the commercial page lists:

Pour couper le fibre de carbone, pour plus de sécurité pour la santé, couper dans un contenant pour leur remplir d’eau…Selon que j’ai vue dans Youtube. Je ne me souviens pas lequel… (English use translate google sorry)

I settled on using ArtCam for CAM, it’s easy to use and while it may lack some features of more engineering focused CAM products, it’s very easy to use and a low learning curve.

@Jose_Chambrot when i click on save tool path what post possessor do i use with cut2d and the shapeoko3 cnc

maker cam is very good for 2d if you can get them in svg format through illustrator or inkscape. use it for all my mini quads :slight_smile: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JrNDHGz-qb4
