I just installed Windows 10,

I just installed Windows 10, I was looking through the bloatware and getting rid of it when I realized that Windows 10 comes with 3D printing software built in!

it any good ? i wanna see a print .

@william_foster I haven’t finished my printer yet. I wonder what kind of DIY support it has–Or if it will only work with mainstream printers like the Maker-Bot.

One of the big features for Windows going forward is supposed to be out of the box support for 3D printing; though no idea how well it works in practice.

@Engineering_Nonsense fair enough

@Tom_Nardi I find that very intriguing. It seems that although not perfect, Microsoft is starting to go in the right direction regardless of past mistakes–If Microsoft actually buys AMD like the rumors say, I’ll stop hating it.

Very cool i got to install this.

Yep…the 3D builder software in the current Windows 8.1 is decent…but the one standout feature is that it is one of the only ways to get the Kinect V2 to do any scanning…other software (AHEM…cough… @Skanect has seemed to not support that new hardware, rather preferring to push their own hardware)…so 3D builder is what I have had to use.

Of course you could use the SDK, but it is a full featured scanning app in the 3D builder software package.

Windows 10 will start rolling out (if you reserved your copy) on July 29th. It will be a free upgrade from Windows 7 thru 8.1. It will come through as a windows update.

are you sure about that?

It also comes with 3D Builder for 3D scanning with a Kinect V2 but that damn thing requires DirectX10. :frowning:

you can download it if your system doesn’t already have it installed

@Nick_Kloski1 do you have any scan results to check out?
I still haven’t been able to test it as I’m using MacOS and no Windows Emulator does DirectX10. :frowning:
I’m considering it but buying a new computer just for the off-chance that it may beat my current Skanect is a no-go.

Marcus, if you buy a new system with Windows 8, you might want to install Norton 360 from Symantec for 24/7 protection after uninstalling what it comes with and disabling Windows firewall

I don’t want to buy a new system at all
before I know what results scanning of small objects with Kinect V2 and 3D Builder produces.

Didn’t @Printrbot work with Microsoft to support their range of printers natively? Or do my memory trick me. The software looks pretty neat, and if I can do good kinect scans on it I just might keep my windows install on my Ubuntu laptop after all…

@Charles_Wright who on earth willingly installs Norton? :-/

This software looks really cool, the next paint? Going to have to install Windows 10 now to have a play!

everyone who wants to protect their system from online threats and intrusions installs Norton…

I needed Norton because what I had – Microsoft Security Essentials did not protect my system when it was infected with the Ransomware known as the FBI Cryptolocker Moneypak virus… totally locked me out

It’s Snakeoil just like all the others. By the mere existance of the APIs these need to function they open up new security holes.

Can we drop that topic please!

@Charles_Wright Yes. You should have seen a window icon in your system tray.
