Just waited 2 weeks for a $55 sainsmart Ultimaker 1.5.7 board. And this is what I get? Worst solder job ever! They were suppose to have 3 thermistor hookups and is missing one. And not a one end stop connector. Super dissatisfied!

Sorry to hear that.

That’s inexcusable

sloppy work… to much sake with lunch?

how does that make it out of the door?
@Sonex128 thanks man

Those pins are a bit much. Guess noone had any flush cutters…

looks like they just applied molten solder to cold connections

@Patrick_McMicken or a desoldering pump or depth perception or another thermistor connector. there is even a solder pad where nothing is soldered that looks burned off. bent header pins. and was in a box heavily wrapped in bubble wrap. so it happened in the factory. there even a few blobs stuck on the side of resistors that are standing upright.

I’m going to see what they do about this. Take hours to fix it all by hand

well if you find it too much trouble i’m accepting free donations for my Ingentis build… so far i have a frame…lol

You just have to look at the comments on their web page …then ask do I want cheap or do I want quality.
I was going to buy a board till I read their web site.

@Custom_Creations who did you buy from?

So far my Sainsmart and Geeeetech experiences have been similar, though the Pololu DRV8825 clones I got from the latter work pretty well after scrubbing off the flux

@Jelle_Boomstra honestly I was running a ramps when I decided to switch. Ultimaker is one of the best out there imho. The Ul-T-Slot I’m building is very similar in construction. N e way. The board is super easy to convert to 24v that was the deciding factor. I have been trying to get help with Gerber’s for the Ultimaker 2.1.1 board but um will not sell solo and their git only had the files in PDF. I want to build one of those. Mostly to boast that I did it.

Some ebay sellers grab the QC failed boards from where they work and sell them. Maybe that’s what happened here. Or, are all Sainsmart boards crap?

@Custom_Creations I kind of like the ramps/um1.5.7 design. I am into the through hole components because its something I can work on and easily repair if need be

What do these Ultimaker boards offer that’s different/better than RAMbo? Thx

yes but switching the linear regulator to a switching reg is super easy and what I did as they make a 7812 drop in replacement. the stepper drivers are also plug and play so a burned out stepper doesn’t mean as much work or total replacement. Also this gives me the opportunity to experiment with different steppers. the foot print is only an issue if you have nowhere to put it but as my design has an electronics cabinet which has to be tall enough for power supply z axle and a few other goodies this is a non issue. There are no cons other than the shitty craftsmanship I received and will repair.

@Custom_Creations I replaced my ramps board because I wanted to easily run the machine from 24v for my custom nichrome/alu plate heated bed as I run a 12x12 x12 build area

@Jelle_Boomstra - Do you write for any blogs? Recommend any for advanced 3D Printing? Thx man
