ordered a new aluhotend v6 for my prusa to replace the old jhead
It would be great to get your advise of the printing compared to the jhead.
you will be so much happier with an all metal hot end… trust me!
@Chris_Bigpaws_Chambe i do
the jhead is annoying because i cant take it apart
Might depend if you are using an original jhead or a knockoff. I have used an original and had exceptional results i would say it was better output than my original E3d v5.
@Wayne_Friedt y one is probably a knockoff. my printer is a cheap one
i have had some great prints with it though
@zephyrin_JG I have been using E3D’s V5 & V6 hot ends for just over 1.5 years and I will NEVER purchase another jhead type ever again. I use primarily ABS and Poly carbonates for my projects. and the all metal hot ends are Great for this kinda stuff.
If it had 4 cooling fins that is a knockoff. 5 cooling fins is original.
I have used knockoff e3d v5’s that will not print.
@Wayne_Friedt Ya get what you pay for my friend, I buy my parts Direct through E3D.
@Chris_Bigpaws_Chambe Correct as my post a little bit higher explains. It is best to stick to original for hotends.
Only other place is +filastruder if your in the states.
@Joe_Spanier MatterHackers has them too.
Be sure to get the ptfe tube inserted all the way down into the heat block as far as it’ll go.
I’m using this direct drive and it’s working just fine http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:501755
ok
im using a bowden extruder, thne aluhotend should be a direct bolt in replacement, no mods
J-heads can be taken apart, at least the genuine ones. You might need to replace the PTFE tape on the thread if you remove the brass block from the barrel though.
yeah i tried, i got the bowden connector out but when i tried taking the heater block apart from the barel i couldnt move it much, i didnt want to force it and maybe break it because its my only hotend at the moment
Its worth pulling these heads apart and giving them a good clean to get out any scraps of swarf from machining. And I’ve found it to be quite ‘dribbly’. So print at lower temperatures.
About to switch to an E3D V.6 to compare. But they do seem to print nicely once things are tuned and are good value for money.
i usually print at around 32mm/second, its the original settings and it works fine
I’ve got several of them and they work great. Almost as good as J-head. The latter will work with ABS without a fan but Aluhotend needs a fan always on. Someone mentioned this as being all-metal, it is not as it contains a PFTE liner inside (which make it work great with both PLA and ABS).
