Prototype for 2040 rail carriage for the TEVO Tarantula to mount Toranado geared extruder/E3D

Prototype for 2040 rail carriage for the TEVO Tarantula to mount Toranado geared extruder/E3D V6 mount is complete!

If you use this carriage, I’d really appreciate a contribution to continue my design work.

Heh, I don’t have one.

I made this by request.

Thank you!

Mark Ellison, I don’t have one either, But I’m part of the FB group. Last month one TEVO Tarantula caught fire and burnt up and burn a hole into the plastic table it was on, luckily the owner was home and managed to put it out or he would of lost his house. TEVO skimps on things like Kapton tape on the hotend, the temp sensor fell out and the heater element kept getting hotter and hotter and melted the plastic and the hotend fell apart. They also skimp on things like crimps for the heated bed wires and because of this around 7 mks base clone boards had melted connectors last month. What happens is that the wires wiggle with movement of the bed and because they are loose they make a spike in amps and melt the plastic, people then have to desolder the connector and solder the wire direct. Also the frame has lots of movement, every corner needs reinforcing and bracing. The heated bed needs insulation to get it up high enough for ABS. It uses around 10 acrylic plates and TEVO charges almost 10 times the cost of upgrades, like a $5 sensor on aliexpress, Tevo charges $47. Other than that, its a good printer once you update everything.

Sounds a lot like the Cobblebot Vanguard. Experience is that you spend $300 on a printer you aren’t going to get a very good one.

close @Greg_Nutt this will work for the Tevo tarantula on the horizontal mount (stock style) but I was looking for the vertical carriage just like the one for the cobblebot to hang it from the front, kinda like a prusa I3 x carriage sits.

The tevo community is alot like this one it has pulled together and made massive changes to alot of the machine and has a pushed massive steps forward, the biggest difference is the owners/designers/sellers actually stand behind the product and support it in a very active way

Thanks for designing this will pass this one along to the group also to give them some alternatives to the stock acrylic mounts

I agree with Ken Stewart that the owner and community are really tight, Chris said he was walking away from FB and will have someone else to replace him also, They help each other out when in need, Its probably the best 3D printer community on FB, Heck I even have a 3D group and I say the TEVO group is better :). The way the Tevo tarantula works, you take a $250/USD printer add around $100-$200 in upgrades you do yourself, and for just under $500 you have a printer that can compete against $2500+ printers in quality and speed. Out of the box, if you add some crimps, kapton tape and print off a few braces, you’ll have a good stable printer for under $260 that prints fine with PLA.

My modified Cobblebot is the same way. The open rails are a great thing to build on when done right. I can push over 200mm/s and still get a very accurate print. @_KaT_KaTZWorld I can probably create a completely vertical version as well but I do have concern about the 40mm height. I have found that the 20mm can already create some bending in the printed carriage and I’m a little concerned that 40mm vertical may end up being very loose.

I can see how that can be a factor flexing … I would reinforced it with a flat plate to put different addons to it, mostly need it to make swaps easier

I could make it thicker too I suppose. I’ll see what I can do.

@_KaT_KaTZWorld Are you looking for the belt to be on top or underneath like the Cobblebot?

just like the cobblebot one you made just with a 40mm front instead of 20mm

I don’t have a 2040 rail to test this on, but the length has been increased by exactly 20mm so hopefully it will work. I have also made it 2mm thicker to help reduce warping.

Except there is an error in the hole postion… that will be fixed shortly.

Fixed.

looking good … if you add the 4th hole in on the carriage its a perfect prusa i3 rework and a win for everyone … once you get the holes moved on this last one I will print it and give you an update

LOL… why didn’t you say that before!?

I’ll get right to work on it.

Holes already moved BTW.

@Greg_Nutt just noticed it would work when I was measuring the holes on the carriage vs other prusa style attachments

Will update the thingiverse item with 4 hole variation momentarily.
